Supermoon a big dud!!!!

I checked out the alleged "supermoon" and it was a super dud. If the moon appeared bigger then it has in the last 18 years I couldn't tell.

I shot some photos which are also duds but I will include them here anyhow!

'Supermoon' to rise Saturday, even more rare than a blue moon

Blue moons are a dime a dozen. There's the song "Blue Moon", the great pitcher Blue Moon Odom, even the phrase "once in a blue moon." But on Saturday, the people of Earth will experience a "supermoon," which is far rarer than any old blue moon.

Blue moons (a term referring to the second full moon in a month) usually occur about every 2 1/2 years; the last supermoon was recorded in 1993, and the next one won't occur until 2029.

"Supermoon is a situation when the moon is slightly closer to Earth in its orbit than on average, and this effect is most noticeable when it occurs at the same time as a full moon," Dr. James Garvin, chief scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center said on the agency's website this month, explaining that this moon will seem bigger to the naked eye.

"It is called a supermoon because this is a very noticeable alignment that at first glance would seem to have an effect. The 'super' in supermoon is really just the appearance of being closer." Garvin said.

In the wake of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan, some may fear that a supermoon -- the technical name is a "perigee" moon -- may cause danger with the tides. Garvin says not to worry.

"The effects on Earth from a supermoon are minor, and according to the most detailed studies by terrestrial seismologists and volcanologists, the combination of the moon being at its closest to Earth in its orbit, and being in its 'full moon' configuration (relative to the Earth and sun), should not affect the internal energy balance of the Earth since there are lunar tides every day," he said.

Because of the rain and clouds in the forecast this weekend for those in Los Angeles, it might just be a hazy moon unless Mother Nature cooperates. But keep your eyes peeled Saturday and you might see something that happens even less often than a blue moon.
