Mesa house fire: Body found inside home by firefighters by Connor Radnovich, John Genovese and Gary Nelson - Jun. 16, 2011 08:45 AM Arizona Republic-12 News Breaking News Team A Mesa man was found dead early Thursday morning after a fire tore through a home in Mesa, officials said. The fire began at about 2 a.m. on Gilbert Road between Brown and McKellips roads. Police identified the man as Kirby Allan. Allan was a longtime critic of city government and ran several times for City Council. An official cause of death is not known. A woman in her 70s was also in the home at the time, but she was able to get out and received treatment from paramedics. Gilbert Road near the fire was restricted for approximately one hour. Another Mesa fire happened at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at a vacant home near Brown Road and Val Vista Drive. Officials say the fire began in an oleander tree outside the home and spread its way to the attic. No injuries have been reported, and traffic was temporarily diverted while crews extinguished the flames. |
