Former Nogales mayor accepts plea deal Jun. 27, 2011 04:06 PM Associated Press NOGALES, Ariz. - The former mayor of Nogales has accepted a plea deal that will likely send him to prison for at least two years. The Nogales International says 31-year-old Octavio Garcia-Von Borstel had been charged with soliciting bribes while mayor. He pleaded no contest Monday to a charge of illegally conducting an enterprise. He and his father were also charged with using one of their businesses to defraud Western Union of more than $500,000. In that case, Garcia Von Borstel pleaded guilty to fraud. He could get five years of probation on that conviction, or up to 12 ½ years if he fails to show for his Aug. 29 sentencing. Garcia Von Borstel's father also accepted a deal that could send him to prison for at least two years. |
