Why would anybody want to move anything from the
Quad Cities to anywhere?
I don't know but they did!!
I lived in the Quad Cities for a while and it's just a frozen wasteland full of meat eaters. They don't even know what chilli is! Pizza Pit in Mesa offers famous Quad City pies by Angelique Soenarie - Jun. 6, 2011 09:36 AM The Arizona Republic Pizza Pit is bringing a taste of the Quad Cities to the desert. Owners Matt Seamans and Cory Valentine moved to the Valley about eight years ago from Moline, Ill. They missed pizza from back home, they decided to open a restaurant. Four things you should know about the restaurant: 1. It's authentic. Valentine and Seamans were homesick for pies from Harris Pizza in Moline. So, they purchased the recipe from the owners and opened Pizza Pit a year ago. The restaurant is in the location of the former Brunello's Italian Restaurant at Dobson and Baseline roads. 2. Secret's in the crust. The dough is made with malt syrup, commonly used in bagels, that gives the crust a touch of malty sweetness. 3. What you should order. The No Joke Sausage pie (small $7.75, medium $11.75, large $18.75) is made with a custom sausage made from pork loin that is crumbled underneath a layer of melted cheese. Another favorite is "Mulkey's Original" fried chicken wings, a recipe purchased from another Quad City favorite. This week the restaurant now offers gourmet sandwiches such as the Italian Beef ($7.50), which is made of thinly sliced Chicago beef, served with a homemade au jus or "Pit" sauce and Giardiniera hot peppers. 4. Quad City natives get a break. From 1-4 p.m. on the first and third Sundays of each month, former or current residents of Rock Island, Moline or East Moline, Ill., or Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa, (the Quad Cities) can get domestic pints for $1.75, Pit bread $3.99 and $2 off any large pizza. (Yes, the special's offered for other patrons, too.) Details: Open daily. 1954 S. Dobson Road, Mesa. 480-755-7555, eatpizzapit.com. |
